博我以文，約我以禮。

這是顏淵說孔子的："（他）用學問讓我的智慧更廣博，用禮儀來讓我節制。"

Confucius student Yan Hui being taught, "Use wide range of knowledge to make me more wise, and use LI to restrain myself."
LI have the meaning of restrain oneself and temperance, not extreme but reasonable.

擁有廣博的智慧，為什麼又需要用禮儀來節制呢？人往往會因為掌握了豐富的學識而變得傲慢，所以禮在這裡就是讓人變得更謙遜。這是一種人格的培養。
Oneself with knowledge then why need to be restrained? Most of time human become ego, this is where LI comes from to avoid this. Thus our personality improved.
